Abstract

Higher education for women in rural areas is a key element in community empowerment, but access to it is still hampered by social and economic factors. Women in Pasir Gombong Village, Bayah District, face challenges in accessing higher education due to unequal opportunities, conservative social norms, and lack of sustainable institutional support. This community service aims to increase women's participation in higher education by applying a participatory approach involving various stakeholders. The programme includes an initial survey to map the main barriers, focus group discussions (FGDs) to explore community perspectives, educational workshops to increase understanding of the benefits of higher education, and academic mentoring for young women who plan to continue their education. The programme evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test to measure changes in community perceptions towards higher education for women after the intervention. The results show that this intervention programme succeeded in raising community awareness about the importance of higher education for women, strengthening institutional support, and increasing women's motivation to pursue higher education. The conclusion of this service emphasises the importance of a holistic approach in overcoming social and institutional barriers. This model can be replicated in other areas by adjusting the intervention strategy according to the social and cultural characteristics of the local community.
